On September 8, 2025, UPE and representatives from the Department of Finance met and conferred over the implementation of key fobs for accessing workstations. The Department provided documentation that DMV rules are necessitating the change. The DMV is requiring two-factor authentication on computers with access to their system. Employees will insert the fob into their computer's USB slot and apply pressure with their finger (it does not capture or require a fingerprint). Employees will then enter a PIN/password into the computer to unlock it. This will replace the standard username and password that employees use currently. The username and password will still be required for any other system for which the employee currently uses them.
Key fobs will be assigned specifically to employees (like c-cure badges).
Key fobs will also be associated with the employees assigned workstations.
Employees must enter the PIN/password and insert the fob to access their workstation. Fobs will not work on other workstations, and the key fob alone is not enough to unlock a workstation.
If a key fob is lost or forgotten, a temporary one can be assigned by D-Tech remotely.
The pins/passwords associated with the individual fobs will be set up by the employee with D-Tech.
The Department will not have the ability to alter passwords or key fob assignments. This is all controlled by D-Tech.
