On May 12, 2025, 005 members and advocates met with DCSS management regarding some staffing changes. These changes are both wins for our members at DCSS, as they help to offset the workload increase, and we have been advocating for one of them for a while. They will be adding one Office Assistant to their reception team and one Office Assistant to their Central Processing Unit (CPU). The reception team currently only has two OAs, and this would necessitate other OAs in the building to sometimes assist with coverage if someone were out. This addition grants some relief to the OA's handling customers coming in, and for the other workers not to be pulled in as much.

The OA in CPU is a result of our members' and advocates' continued efforts. Earlier this year, DCSS opened an additional courtroom for hearing cases. This department continues to increase the workload, and all teams feel it. As a result, CPUs have also faced an increase in their duties. Their duties are required more frequently, and we have been asking for more help as they always seemed to be left out of the conversation. We were finally able to get them some extra hands, as DCSS undercut a vacancy to fill it with a new OA for their team.

Additional discussions at this meeting were regarding the mail courier cart and the expedited filing services. The CPU currently had to stop at four (4) areas in the building to pick up mail. We were able to consolidate this task down to three (3) stops. Management is also actively working on simplifying some other processes, such as needing staff to fill out stat sheets, etc. Thanks to our advocates' suggestions and collaboration, we're making a movement on workflows and making them more efficient.

UPE thanks advocates Zackary Kollross, Sylvia Garcia, Lorena Diaz, Julieann Rouse, and Zanell Hempstead
