Interpreter Coordinator Duties - Meeting #2

On June 23, 2026, your Sutter governing board met with the Court to continue discussing the vacant court services technician position and the associated interpreter coordination duties. We initially proposed adding an incentive for those in the court clerk classification performing the duties, in lieu of filling the position, as it has long been vacant. However, we have agreed on using that position’s funding along with the Court’s budget allocation to create another court clerk position, in an effort to help balance the growing workload and calendars for the clerks. The person performing interpreter duties would have it balanced alongside other court clerk duties, so that it is not an additional load of work for them. The Court agreed and values the workers’ discretion, and if anyone is overwhelmed, they will make changes to work assignments as necessary.

As it stands, they do not expect normal clerk work with the added duty of interpreter coordination -- they would reduce other duties to create balance. We look forward to the opportunity this position conversion will create, as it has been historically difficult for the court to avoid vacancies. We are hopeful that this will encourage more recruitment and help with the workload at the Court.

UPE thanks advocates Jennifer Lambert and Warren Simpson for their advocacy.
