UPE met with DHA on June 13, 2022, to discuss an upcoming implicit bias training for all staff. UPE called for the meeting to better understand the reasoning behind the meaning and to assess its potential impact on our members. UPE is especially concerned that the training is for all DHA employees, but there are only four available sessions. This is likely to cause a significant workload impact for those employees not attending the training.
As a result of the meeting and UPE’s questioning, the Department made the following changes:
The training is voluntary, and anyone already scheduled may opt out.
Use of cameras during the training is not required as UPE and DHA are still negotiating over the use of desk cameras in DHA.
Workers are encouraged but not required to actively participate in the training.
