On November 12, 2024, UPE met with the Department of Health Services (DHS) Sacramento County Health Center (SCHC) to discuss updates to the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan (Policy 06-06). This policy outlines the procedures for employees in the event of exposure to potentially infectious materials such as bloodborne pathogens.

UPE is currently engaged in ongoing discussions regarding the proper protocols and updates to the policy that should be followed if exposure occurs. One of the proposed changes includes expanding treatment options beyond Kaiser facilities to include a broader list of healthcare clinics and hospitals.

UPE is dedicated to supporting the health and safety of our members and will continue to advocate for policies that provide the best protection. As these discussions continue, we remain committed to keeping you informed every step of the way. Please stay tuned for updates as we proceed with further meetings on this important issue.

UPE would like to thank 005 & 008 Governing Board members,
Sylvia Garcia, James Starr, Stephanie McCall, and Nichole Gorman for their advocacy and participation.
