Greetings, Union Sisters and Brothers. On June 6, 2024, your 005/008 UPE meet and confer team had their first meeting with DHA management regarding DHA’s plan to have extended evening hours. Here’s what we know at this point:
The gates and lobby kiosks will remain open until 5:00 p.m.
Phone queues will continue to receive calls until 5:00 p.m.
About 25% of staff for most programs and functions will be required to stay until either 5:30 p.m. or 6:00 p.m. (management has been asked for a more precise breakdown of staffing needs).
There are many issues of concern still remaining for which management has not provided full details: security, evening evacuation plans, parking, the increased number of 9/80 schedules, the possible implementation of 4/10 schedules, the possibility of bidding on time shifts or moving between functions to get a later shift, and how many employees may have to be involuntarily shifted to later hours.
The union is pushing strongly for management to increase alternative work schedule opportunities rather than having people’s hours changed involuntarily. More meetings are being scheduled and implementation of extended hours is not expected until August. Please stay tuned!
