Greetings, Union sisters and brothers. On September 14, 2023, your UPE 005/008 Meet & Confer team met with DHA management on the impacts of the CalSAWS implementation.

First, the good news: as a result of UPE’s advocacy, management has now agreed to the following:

  1. The CalWORKs Intake Service Center function rotation will not be paused but will continue as previously agreed.

  2. The “telework pause” will now be reduced to only one (1) month (9/26/2023 – 10/26/2023). Although, any additional remote work rotations will be “paused” between 10/26/2023 and 12/4/2023 to facilitate the transition to Amazon Connect.

  3. Outstationed staff will not have to return to their home bureaus for the CalSAWS transition.

Now, the not-so-good news:

It is now even clearer to us that DHA management is nowhere near ready for CalSAWS implementation. Management seemed unaware of the CalSAWS glitches that our members are being told about as they undergo instructor-led training. UPE has asked management for more information, and union meetings with management will continue on September 22, 2023.

We will continue to keep you informed as the process continues.

Stay tuned!

Thank you to the 005 & 008 Governing Board members for their advocacy,

Chris Jenkins, Patrick Hunter, James Starr, Stephanie McCall, Nichole Gorman, Jennifer Avalo, Monica Stephens
