Cooling Centers

On July 19, 2022, UPE and representatives of the 008 and 005 bargaining units met with DHA management regarding “cooling centers.” As you may be aware, the County of Sacramento has made DHA lobby sites available for the homeless population to come in and cool off on hot summer days starting at 2 pm.


UPE met with the department some time ago to discuss the reopening of lobbies to 50% capacity during business hours (8 am-4 pm). Although that is still in effect, the department was going to allow unlimited entry into these lobbies at 4 pm.


UPE and the Department were able to come to an agreement to extend the lobby capacity of 50% to 5 pm to ensure that our members are not exposed to overcrowded lobbies during their shifts. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.
