On January 15, 2025, UPE met with the Department of Behavioral Health Services (BHRS) to discuss the proposed telework policy. The meet and confer discussed the proposed telework policy, which will allow employees whose job allows for them to perform their duties from a remote location to take advantage of teleworking. It’s important to note that employees currently on a corrective action plan will not qualify for telework.
Under the new policy, employees who telework will still be required to work for at least 50% of their work time in the office for each pay period. For those looking to telework, it will be necessary to submit a telework request form alongside the Merced Telework Acknowledgment Form and complete the County of Merced Telework Safety Self-Certification Form. Employees will need to remain accessible via phone, email, or virtual meetings, with an expectation to respond by the end of the day.
Additionally, employees on an Alternative Work Schedule (AWS) or flex schedule can combine telework with their existing arrangements. To successfully telework, employees should have access to a quiet location, and IT support will be available by phone to assist with system, software, and hardware setups. UPE believes telework will allow employees better flexibility and work-life balance. UPE is committed to keeping you informed as we continue our discussions regarding this important policy. Stay tuned for upcoming updates on the telework policy!
We would like to thank UPE Governing Board Unit 3 Member Lisa Sykes for her advocacy and support.
