UPE met and conferred with Sacramento County regarding its proposed Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy and updates to the Wireless Communication Devices Policy.

As a result of UPE's advocacy, the following employee protections were included in the Wireless Communication Devices Policy:

* Employee Privacy: County-issued wireless devices will not be used to monitor or track employees, and any location data associated with the devices will not be used for disciplinary purposes.

* No Additional Costs: Outdated language regarding limited calling minutes has been removed. Employees will not be responsible for any costs related to voice usage on County-issued devices.

AI Policy Highlights

The County confirmed that AI may not be used to:

* Prepare personnel documentation related to hiring, discipline, benefits, or performance evaluations.

* Make clinical decisions or determine patient eligibility or benefits.

* Generate final legal, contractual, or financial documents without human review.

* Circumvent County policies, security requirements, or regulatory obligations.

* Input confidential information, including HIPAA-protected information, PHI, PII, or Social Security numbers.

UPE will continue to monitor the implementation of these policies and advocate to protect our members' rights and workplace privacy.

Together We are Strong!

Special thank you to Debbie Tellez and Jennifer Avalo for their advocacy.
