  • Where should I go on the morning of the STRIKE, Tuesday 10/28/2025?
Answer: You can go to your regular job site or to the job site closest to where you live.

  • What time should I arrive?
Answer: Please arrive by 7:00 am. At 10:00 am, all members in Auburn will meet in Roseville.

  • What time will the strike end?
Answer: The strike will conclude at 2:00 pm.

  • Do I go back to work after 2 pm on Tuesday?
Answer: NO. Members are to return to work on Wednesday, 10/29/2025

  • Should I call or text my supervisor or Manager on Tuesday morning?
Answer: No, you are not required to make contact.

  • Will there be sign-up sheets at the worksite?
Answer: Yes, there will be sign-in sheets at Historic and Roseville Courthouses. Sign-in sheets are another form that will protect our members in showing that the members were on strike and exercising their protected rights prescribed by law.

  • Will UPE red shirt be available if I don't have one?
Answer: Shirts, signs, and all supplies will be available on the morning of the strike at each location.

  • Are there restrooms available?
Answer: Yes, there are public restrooms at the jail, probation office, and DA's office. The Courthouse is also open to the public. Members wishing to go through the magnetometer to access the restrooms should not encounter any issues.

  • What happens if the admin wants to continue negotiations before Tuesday?
Answer: We are willing to continue negotiations at any point and have invited the Court to reach out to us if they have any movement for us.

  • What happens when I return to work on Wednesday and my desk is a mess and everything's behind?
Answer: We fully expect to return to a backed-up workload. They cannot require you to do more than you would typically handle on a regular workday. You still have the right to take breaks and lunches. If you experience any harassment from management or admin, please reach out to a shop steward.

  • Will I be directed by the Court to come in on Tuesday?
Answer: At this point, NO. Don't stop to argue or debate with a coworker, supervisor, or manager who tries to delay or persuade you not to participate. Just smile and keep walking.

  • Will there be other job actions, including Strikes?
Answer: Yes, unless we get a contract. It's hard to say when. It all depends on the Court and their willingness to negotiate a contract that will be equitable for all court employees. The union will make every effort to keep you informed through this unfortunate time, as the situation develops. There's no need to be frightened by this situation. We're simply doing what millions of workers before us had to do. We benefit today from their efforts, and present- and future-day workers will benefit from ours.

  • If I'm on probation, can I STRIKE?
Answer: All employees in the bargaining unit that are currently on probation have the same rights to participate in the STRIKE as those employees who have passed probation, regardless. UPE can challenge any release from probation that is linked to their participation in strike actions. Your rights will be protected!

TRIAL COURT PROTECTION AND GOVERNANCE ACT
71600 et seq of the California Government Code

“Except as otherwise provided by the Legislature, public employees shall have the right to form, join, and participate in the activities of employee organizations of their own choosing for the purpose of representation on all matters of employer-employee relations.”
“Trial court and employee organizations shall not interfere with, intimidate, restrain, coerce or discriminate against court employees because of their exercise of their rights.”

All employees have all the rights of all citizens in this great nation we call the United States of America! Union members throughout the years have fought to gain and preserve many of these fundamental rights. Placer Superior Court does NOT have the right to deprive, intimidate, harass, coerce, discriminate against or punish you or others of these freedoms or rights and if they try, UPE will exhaust all legal remedies to preserve our members’ rights! - Ted Somera, Executive Director United Public Employees
