OES Time Off Procedure

On July 11, 2024, UPE and Sacramento County met and conferred over a new time off policy for the Office of Emergency Services (OES).  The written policy codifies an existing practice of requesting time off within the OES.  Vacations are requested first during a seniority bidding process that gives the most senior workers first pick but guarantees everyone some set time off.  After this round, time off is granted on a first-come, first-served basis.  However, there is only one UPE classification at OES, a Senior Office Assistant, and this position does not compete for vacation time with any other worker in the OES.  UPE did question some of the language in the sick leave section that suggested that sick leave was not automatically approved when someone calls in sick.  UPE proposed removing this language, and the County agreed.  The new policy will be finalized and implemented within the next few weeks.
