On June 11, 2025, your UPE Court Office Technical Governing Board met again with Sacramento Superior Court regarding the ongoing class study for the Account Clerk, Court Attendant, Court Services Coordinator, Courtroom Clerk, and Lead Deputy Clerk (DC IV) positions. At the meeting, the consulting firm Bryce Consulting presented the results of a compensation survey they conducted comparing the above classifications with comparable classifications at other courts.
The compensation survey is the second half of the classification study that occurred last year. The first step was the questionnaires staff completed. The Court used these to update job descriptions, which went into effect early this year following meetings with UPE. The compensation study compares the compensation for the listed classifications at the Sacramento Superior Court to that of comparable employers around the state. Typically, classifications significantly below the median for compensation (usually 5% or more below) are entitled to an equity increase to bring their salary up to that of comparable employers.
UPE conducted a thorough review of the study results and presented the Court and its consultants with a number of questions. UPE objected to the inclusion of Sacramento County and the City of Sacramento as part of the market survey. The parties never discussed including these two employers. It does not make sense to include them as they are not courts, and the two parties have never included non-courts as comparable employers. Additionally, UPE questioned the exclusion of several comparable classifications from the study. The inclusion of these classifications would be beneficial to UPE members. The consulting firm requested additional time to review the reasons behind their decision to exclude those classifications.
The two parties are currently scheduling a follow-up meeting in the near future to address UPE's questions and discuss potential salary increases for classifications below the market median. UPE will update members again after that meeting.
