UPE met with Sacramento Superior Court management on June 25, 2025, to discuss the implementation of Policy 812: Domestic Violence and the Workplace. This policy takes effect on July 1, 2025. It outlines the Court’s commitment to supporting employees who are victims of qualifying acts of violence (QAOV) such as domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking.
Under the policy, affected employees may request leave, schedule changes, or workplace accommodations for safety, medical care, legal proceedings, housing, counseling, and other needs related to a QAOV. The Court must maintain confidentiality and provide a safe and supportive environment for employees seeking help.
An employee may use vacation, personal leave, paid sick leave, or compensatory time off that is otherwise available to the employee for time taken off for purposes outlined in this policy. Certification or documentation may be required if time off is taken without advance notice, and several forms of verification are accepted.
This policy helps ensure the Court will treat all employees with respect and dignity while protecting their rights and safety. If you have questions or need support, contact your UPE representative—we’re here to help.
