Dear UPE Brothers and Sisters. On January 23, 2025, UPE met and conferred with the Department of Health Care Services, Sacramento County Health Center, regarding bloodborne pathogens policies and procedures. During this discussion, we addressed various policies and procedures that should be followed in the event of exposure to bloodborne pathogens. It was discussed for annual training to be given to staff, as well as additional training to be provided within 30 days of onboarding new employees. We believe this is crucial to ensure everyone is well-prepared and informed in the event of exposure.

Furthermore, we advocated that DHA Service Safety Specialists need to be able to provide hard copies of the policies and procedures plan should staff request one. In terms of treatment following exposure to bloodborne pathogens, we want to reassure you that this will be provided at no cost. Employees will be given the necessary forms to fill out, including a workers' compensation form, and a list of emergency facilities will be provided so that you can choose where to receive treatment in the event of exposure. Alternatively, employees still maintain the right to refuse treatment.

UPE would like to thank 005 and 008 Governing Board members James Starr, Nichole Gorman, Sylvia Garcia, and Stephanie McCall for their advocacy and participation.

TOGETHER WE ARE STRONG!
