On May 5th, 2023, UPE and representatives from the 005 Bargaining unit met with the Department of Child Support Services on changes to the current background check policy. The Department of Child Support Services (DCSS) has access to Federal Taxpayer information as a part of the work that is performed. The IRS required the department to perform background checks on all employees every ten (10) years. Recently, the IRS changed those requirements (Publication 1075) that now require a background check for all employees every five (5) years.

DCSS last performed background checks on all employees in 2019. As a result of the new IRS requirements, the department will perform background checks again sometime in 2024 for employees who were hired more than four (4) years ago.
