CMISP Line at East Commerce

Greetings, Union Sisters and Brothers,

On August 12, 2026, your 005 board members and subject matter experts met with DHA management regarding the CMISP line function at East Commerce, following the closure of 28th Street. We met with management regarding the transfer of this duty earlier this year, and we were told that all members in the BCW unit at East Commerce would be trained to assist the current staff with this phone line. That did not happen until now, 6 months later.

Management insisted this is not a new duty, and while that is true within the department, it is new for those who have never handled this phone line. As such, we proposed a 3-month hold harmless clause for those who are newly handling this phone line, and management agreed. Our members will not be disciplined for errors or omissions made in the first 3 months of learning the CMISP line duties.

Additionally, we mentioned various technical issues with the phone line, including the inability to hear customers or an inequitable distribution of phone calls amongst staff. Management will be working to address these issues with DTECH. We also mentioned the lack of written procedures for this duty, which management will now be putting together.

We are glad to have adequate support for this function and make sure the workload remains equitable amongst staff.

UPE thanks our advocates and subject matter experts: Deborah Tellez, Jennifer Avalo, Krystal Hurtado, Michelle Griffen, Vanessa Romero, and Lewis Laughner.

TOGETHER WE ARE STRONG!
