UPE and Sacramento Superior Court met and conferred over changes to the Courtroom Clerk A and B class specifications. The Court is proposing to change the name to Courtroom Clerk and Lead Courtroom Clerk. UPE proposed changes to the job specification to capture the central role the Courtroom Clerk plays in the Courtroom more accurately, as well as changes to reflect the work environment more accurately. In particular, UPE proposed, and the Court agreed to add the phrase “administers the essential functions of a courtroom” to the distinguishing characteristics section. As well as adding the ability to “handle a high volume of work in a fast-paced and demanding environment across multiple areas of law” and the ability to “view and listen to sensitive material and testimony.”
The next step in the process will be for the Court’s consulting firm to complete a compensation study to compare the compensation of the Courtroom Clerks with comparable classifications in other jurisdictions. This process should be completed in early 2025.
