Court Professional Bargaining Update
On September 14, 2026, your UPE Court Professional Bargaining Team again met with the Sacramento Court. Today, our team was able to reach a tentative agreement on a proposal that clarifies and better protects retiree healthcare. Unfortunately, the court has been unwilling to move from their positions regarding salary increases, vacation slots, and reimbursement for professional dues.
Most notably, the court remains dead set against providing a salary increase to address the rising cost of living, instead insisting on only a one-time payment of $1,000. Meanwhile, the court has failed to demonstrate any substantial plans to prevent the same financial situation from playing out in our next bargaining cycle.
As a result, our side has declared a formal impasse. The next steps for our bargaining team will be mediation with a third-party mediator. We remain hopeful that progress can be made through mediation.
However, if progress is not made, our team stands ready to empower our workers to take action to secure a fair deal. On Wednesday, September 16th, our bargaining team will be holding a strike authorization vote at FRC. This vote, if ratified, would empower our bargaining team to start the work toward labor action, should mediation prove unsuccessful.
We encourage all members of the bargaining unit to come out Wednesday to voice their opinion and to ask any questions about the bargaining process to this point.
