On August 16, 2024, Sacramento Superior Court and your UPE Bargaining Teams continued contract negotiations. After a contract extension, canceled meetings, and months of negotiations, the Court finally presented UPE with its response to our economic proposals. For both units, the Court presented an unprecedentedly bad offer of a three-year contract that only included a one-time payment of $1,250 in the first year and no money in the second or third year. That’s right; not only did the Court propose no ongoing salary increases for any year, but the Court also proposed a contract with zero money at all in two out of the three years. The Court did propose a reopener on salary in years two and three if the Court’s budget is improved. However, history shows these reopeners never worked out. Your UPE Bargaining Teams found the Court’s response insulting. This horrible proposal comes after a year of increasingly bad working conditions and mismanagement. Your UPE Bargaining Teams collectively made close to a dozen non-economic proposals designed to help address poor working conditions and quality of life. The Court rejected most of these! Your UPE bargaining teams do not believe our members will accept such a disrespectful offer. The Court-Office Technical Unit meets with the Court again on August 23, 2024, and the Court Professional Unit meets again on August 30, 2024. Before these meetings, UPE wants to hear from our members!
On Thursday, August 22, 2024, at 6 pm, UPE will hold a Bargaining Advisory Meeting (BAC) to review the state of negotiations and take a strike authorization vote! Members need to turn out and make their voices heard! Now is the time for our membership to stand up and stand together to tell the Court we will not accept this treatment. Please continue to wear red on Fridays to support your bargaining teams.
