008 Bargaining Update

UPE
Greetings, Union Brothers and Sisters. On January 23, 2025, your UPE 008 Bargaining Team met with the County to continue bargaining. UPE and the County reached a tentative agreement on two proposals.  One allows the payment of standby pay on a pro-rated basis for shifts of less or more than 8 hours.  This preserves the current payment level while allowing for more flexible scheduling if necessary.  The second proposal both sides agreed upon ensures that Range B Social Workers receive a true 5% promotion above their Range B salary when they are promoted to a Master’s Degree Social Worker.

Your team also made seven new proposals, including proposals to reduce the arbitrary denial of 4/10 and telework work schedules; to make it easier to submit education reimbursement claims; to increase vacation accruals; increase the CPS retention incentive and expand it to cover FSWs, CDS, and workers in SAS; new differentials for Social Workers in the Public Defender, District Attorney, Probation, and Sheriff’s departments; and a ban on the use of controlled leave.

Your UPE 008 Bargaining Team rejected County proposals to limit the size of UPE bargaining teams, limit UPE’s ability to negotiate changes to terms and conditions of employment and reduce the amount of County-paid family death leave.

The next bargaining session is scheduled for February 6, 2025.  This is the last meeting where new proposals can be made.  UPE plans to hold a Bargaining Advisory Committee meeting on February 26, 2025, at 6:00 pm at the UPE Union Hall to update all members on the bargaining status following the proposal deadline.
