STRIKE

UPE sisters and brothers, tomorrow July 8, 2025, WE WILL STRIKE! After months of negotiations, members of the 005 Office Technical Bargaining Unit and the 008 Welfare Non-Supervisory Bargaining Unit, represented by United Public Employees, are going on a 1-day strike. The strike will affect nearly all County offices and is the largest strike since 2006.

Why are UPE Bargaining Unit members striking:

  • The County of Sacramento's last best and final proposal eliminates our current contract language which states: “any changes towards health care must be mutually agreed upon”, so that the county can make unilateral changes towards healthcare plans, which will raise the employees’ costs with no livable raises to offset these costs.
  • The County’s proposal would make it easier to outsource our members’ work.
  • The County wants to eliminate current qualified family members eligible under Family Death Leave.
  • The County wants to unilaterally implement changes to job specifications and duties without going through the meet and confer process prior to the adoption of the changes.
  • The County wants to eliminate our members’ ability to strike on Unfair Labor Practices committed by the County and eliminate our ability to support our bargaining units and other unionized bargaining units.

IMPORTANT. IF YOU ARE TELEWORKING DO NOT LOG ON. YOU CAN EITHER GO TO YOUR OFFICE OR TO THE COUNTY ADMINISTRATIVE BUILDING 700 H STREET AND JOIN THE STRIKE THERE. IF YOU GO TO YOUR WORKSITE AND THERE IS NO PICKET LINE UP, DO NOT GO IN YOUR OFFICE, REPORT TO 700 H STREET AND JOIN THE STRIKE THERE. IF THERE IS A PICKET LINE AT YOUR OWN WORKSITE JOIN IT!

WE MUST STAND TOGETHER FOR LIVEABLE WAGES AND BENEFITS! These takeaways are unacceptable and UPE will fight to push back on any employer who wishes to suppress our members’ collective bargaining rights that we and other unions fought for years to obtain.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS: Bargaining Unit members with shifts that overlap the start and end time will strike for the shift that begins during the strike period. For example, if you work from 11 pm to 8 am you will go into work at 11 pm on 7/7/25 and work the whole shift. You would then strike for the shift beginning at 11 pm on 7/8/25.  A member with a shift from 5:00 pm to 1:30 am would go into work at 5:00 pm on 7/7/25 and work the whole shift and then strike for the entire shift beginning at 5:00 pm on 7/8/25. Finally, members with shifts from 1:00 am to 9:30 am would strike for the entirety of their shift on 7/8/25.
