Greetings, UPE sisters and brothers. On December 17, 2024, your UPE 008 team met with DHA management regarding changes management is imposing on the General Assistance (GA) program. Here are the changes described by management:
GA will be reduced to four (4) workers (3 doing GA-only intakes and 1 WOD).
The other workers currently in GA will be transferred to MACF, although they will remain at 28th Street.
Workers wishing to remain in GA may volunteer, and the four (4) most senior volunteers will stay in GA.
Special Skills workers may volunteer to stay in GA, and volunteers will be selected by County seniority, regardless of whether they are Special Skills or non-Special Skills.
UPE has proposed 12-month return rights to GA for workers involuntarily transferred to MACF.
Only one GATE Social Worker and one GATE HSS will remain in GATE, with the one remaining GATE HSS selected from among GATE HSS volunteers by County seniority. The remaining current GATE HSSs will be transferred to MA only.
Management described a number of program changes that they believe will streamline the program to allegedly make it possible for four workers to handle the workload. Your UPE team expressed our open doubts. Another meeting will be held prior to the implementation of the changes, which are currently scheduled to take effect on January 27, 2025.
Stay tuned for more information later!
