Class Study: Paralegals

Your UPE negotiating team met with the Court regarding the results of a class study on Paralegals.

The Court hired an outside consultant to analyze the Paralegal job specifications to determine whether they accurately reflect the true day-to-day responsibilities, and to compare it to Paralegals in other Courts across California.

UPE was presented with draft class specifications and given the opportunity to review and suggest edits.

The results of this meet and confer were a success. The Paralegal job description was amended to accurately reflect the responsibilities and qualifications for the position.

  •  Added language under “Abilities” to include “ability to diffuse challenging situations using effective interpersonal and customer service skills."
  •  Changed the job qualifications to accurately reflect how to qualify for the position through work experience in lieu of formal education.

We look forward to the Court matching these job specifications to similarly situated Courts in California to improve salary ranges.
A special thank you to Board Member Andrea Howard and Subject Matter Expert Robin Thorpe for bringing their expertise and insights.

TOGETHER WE ARE STRONG!
