008 Bargaining Update: Warning, the Contract is Expiring!

Greetings, union sisters and brothers.  On March 27, 2025, your UPE 008 bargaining team met with county management for our 10th contract negotiation session.

Management came in with a tiny amount of movement on the money side.  For the first year of the contract, the county proposed a 2.8% pay raise (instead of a minimum 1% to maximum 4% in the first year).  Since 2.8% is merely the same increase we would get under their prior proposal, we don’t consider it a major movement or even a reasonable proposal.  They also came in with a proposal to give a 2.5% pay differential to the employees who work at the “Welcome Homes,” which is only 1/6 of the 15% the union had proposed for that group.  That isn’t a reasonable proposal either. And the county made no other movement on pay.

In short, it was another very disappointing session, and the labor contract expires on March 31, 2025.  Two more negotiation sessions are left on the calendar. Something has to change, and we all need to act together to make it happen.

HERE’S WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP:
  • Take part in the breakouts at the worksites.
  • Keep on wearing red on Wednesdays.
  • Carefully read all UPE email announcements
  • Keep a comfortable pair of shoes in your car for walkouts or standing in the picket line, because that could happen.

STAY TUNED!

TOGETHER WE ARE STRONG!
