ARPA Funding

Updated: Jul 7, 2023

Your UPE 008 Bargaining Team met with the County’s representatives regarding the County’s use of $300 million in Federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds that are partially intended to compensate essential workers.

Your UPE 008 Bargaining Team proposed that each 008 member receive a one-time payment of $5000 for the dedication shown and sacrifices made during the pandemic. In March 2020, Sacramento County deemed its employees ‘essential workers’ exempting staff, including all 008 members, from the State of CA shelter in place order – placing workers at serious risk and in harm’s way. UPE proposed hazard pay for our essential workers at that time, but the County rejected that proposal.

Now is the time for the County to recognize the sacrifices our members have made with meaningful compensation, and this $5000 payment represents a step towards that.

The County’s bargaining team will take back our proposal to present to the Board of Supervisors along with those of other Sacramento County labor organizations. The parties are scheduled to meet again on September 16, 2021, to discuss the matter further. UPE thanks the 008 Governing Board members who serve on the Negotiations team for their continuous dedication and representation of our members.
