Stewards are the backbone and heart of our Union. The Council is the organization for Stewards to learn new information, keep up to date on the activities of the Union, share member concerns, and work out solutions to workplace problems. It's a great place to build the Union and meet fun people. There are interesting guest speakers, trainings, and camaraderie!
Stewards are elected according to the contract for their bargaining unit. In the Welfare Non-supervisory unit (008) each bureau elects a Steward. In the Court Unit and Office Technical Unit (005), Stewards are elected by department(s) with 1 Steward allowed for every 70 members.
Classes are held regularly. Stewards need to be available to attend meetings on the 3rd Thursday of each month. In addition to investigating potential grievances, Stewards are often called upon to be "worksite experts" at Meet and Confers and to serve on Political Action, Election and Labor-Management Committees.
