UPE News Item

005 & 008 Meet & Confer Update

DHA Self-Assessment Signage

DHA initially proposed that every time an employee was to use their badge to enter the bureau, they would be attesting that they do not have COVID-19.

UPE rejected that wording because it would involve attesting to something that employees cannot be sure of, since DHA employees are not doctors. The union viewed that as a potential set-up to allow employees to be disciplined for getting sick. DHA then proposed signage when entering the facility. UPE reviewed and made suggestions on the wording. The signage is intended for all people. When entering the building, they are certifying that they have conducted a self-assessment to the best of their knowledge, including not exhibiting any symptoms consistent with COVID-19 (a fever of 100.4 degrees or greater, no recent contact with someone who is suspected or known to be infected with COVID-19). Signage will be posted and a pop-up on each employee’s computer will be added.

In addition, UPE was able to add disclaimer language onto the pop up for employees that will read: “Disclaimer-Not used for Disciplinary Action”.

We would like to thank members of both 005 and 008 bargaining units that were able to participate in the meet and confer including 005 Board Members Jennifer Avalo and Monica Stephens, and 008 Board Members James Starr, Dan Herrera, James Kent-Basham, and Chris Jenkins.
