UPE has negotiated contracts that require the Sacramento County and Sacramento Superior Court to provide many benefits for members. Since each contract has its own fine points, always check your bargaining unit's contract for specific details. Coverage starts on the first day of the month following the date of enrollment in a plan.
Health Insurance
You may acquire group health insurance through your employer for yourself and your family. You have a choice between types of plans, as well as a choice of providers. You have a choice of three Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO) plans -- Kaiser, Blue Shield and HealthNet, one Preferred Provider plan (PPO) and one Point of Service plan (POS) and one Catastrophic Coverage plan. The cost and coverage of each plan is different.
The Court and the County pay a portion of the premium. This is called the medical subsidy. All employees are required to enroll in one of the health plans within 30 days of hire. Employees who have other health coverage may receive cash incentives for enrolling in the Catastrophic Coverage.
For more information about your plan contact the county benefits office via email hrabenefits@saccounty.net or phone (916) 874-9092, UPE, Local 1 or your health plan. Most of the health plans have patient care information online.

Life Insurance
You have $15,000 in Life Insurance that your contract requires your employer provide for you. You may purchase additional life insurance coverage through a payroll deduction plan, by enrolling in person at the Employee Benefits Office. Premium cost for additional life insurance is based on age and salary and plan selection.
Employee Assistance Program
This is a confidential program where members and family members can access professional help or information in a wide variety of areas including emotional health, legal, communication, career planning, fitness, diet, women's health and smoking cessation.
The employer will pay the cost of the counseling not to exceed 360 minutes (six sessions of approximately one hour each) per incident per calendar year for each employee and each covered family member. Participation in the Employee Assistance Program shall be confidential unless written consent is given by the employee or family member.

OTHER BENEFITS
You are also entitled to other benefits negotiated with your employer, such as two Flex plans (Medical expenses and/or Child Care.) You are also eligible to participate in the Deferred Compensation Plan. You can get additional information about how these plans may save you money from your UPE representative or from the Benefits office http://hra.co.sacramento.ca.us/employ/ben/content.htm
