United Public Employees is all about the members. Members run UPE. They elect the leadership, they elect the stewards, they sit at the bargaining table, and they vote on the contracts. Members decide what issues are most important for negotiations. Meetings are open for every member and any member can review the financial records. At UPE, the membership is the BOSS.
Members created UPE as an independent labor union. It is because of that independence that members remain in control. Dues money is used locally for member representation instead of being shipped back East to support the bureaucracy of the international unions.
UPE is a strong, pro-active union that is on the leading edge of asserting and protecting member rights and benefits. The Union provides professional staff for negotiating contracts, contract enforcement via grievance procedures, classification issues, and individual representation in disciplinary appeals. UPE represents public employees who work for Sacramento County and Sacramento Superior Court.
